Nut-Free, Shellfish-Free Paleo Inspiration

Is it possible to eat a paleo diet with a tree nut allergy?  Definitely.  While tree nuts (such as almonds, pistachios, walnuts, and the like but NOT coconuts or seeds) are staples in many paleo diets, and the obvious go-to snack, with a little creativity and careful planning, it's possible to think outside the box, er, shell.

Some tree-nut-free, finger-food, paleo-friendly snacking options include:

-Seeds.  Make your own nut-free, paleo trail mix with seeds (like pumpkin, sunflower, and sesame) and dried fruit (coconut, apple, etc.).  Pumpkin seeds and dried apples go great together, I think!
-Veggies.  Broccoli and other firmer veggies like carrots, snap peas, and green beans travel really well.  Try them with paleo zucchini hummus or sunbutter (it's really delicious).
-Sweet potato.  Microwave, slice, sprinkle with spices (or not) and stick in a container.  Done.  I like mine with paprika, chili powder, and cayenne pepper for a little kick.
-Fresh fruit or applesauce (ok, the latter isn't super finger-food friendly).  One EXCELLENT way to get around this is baby food that comes in pouches.  They have some great fruit and veg blends that have very simple, very natural ingredients.  You may look a little weird chowing down on baby food pouches, but hey, own it, right?
-Avocado.  Again, not finger food.  But still good.  I like mine sprinkled with crumbled bacon or cocoa powder and mashed with a fork.  Mmmmmm.  It's also good drizzled with tahini.
